A.
Definition
of verb
Verb is words to expresses activity /
condition / situation. Verb is the critical element of the predicate of a
sentence and perhaps verb is the most important part of the sentence .
B.
According
to function verb in the sentence, verb can defide into three:
1. Ordinary
verb:
Ordinary
verb is main verb that must be one in the sentence and a type of verb that have
inflection and the inflection ordinary influenced by the tenses.
For example :
Go
( bare infinitive )
Going
( present participle /Ving )
Went
( past tense /V2 )
Gone
( past participle / V3 )
Goes
( additional infinitive )
Ordinary verb defided
into two kind :

Verbal
Verbal
is a sentence that verb is not a member “be”
(
Be, is, am, are, was, were, been, being )
For
example : I met my friend yesterday

Nominal
Nominal is a sentence that verb is a
member “be”
(
Be, is, am, are, was, were, been, being )
For
example : she is happy
2. Auxiliary
verb
Auxiliary
verb is verb that helping the other verb for forming perfect sentence.
Auxiliary
verb defided into two :
a)
Primary
auxiliary
Be, is , am, are, was,
were, been, being, do, does, did, have, has, had
b)
Modal auxiliary
Will, shall, can, could,
may, should, would, might, must , etc.
3. Linking
verb
Linking
verb is verbthat servesto link thesubject withpronoun or
adjective which discribe the subject.
Included
in this verb are :
Be, Feel, Get, Grow, Look, Remain, Fall, Appear, Become, Seem, Smeel, Turn, Run, Like, Look like , etc.
For example :
The man became rich
I feel sleepy
Alex looks serious
The cakes smeel delicious
C. According to the
object , verb difided into two :
a. Transitive
verb
Transitive verb is
verbs that require object in the active sentence
For example :
She buys a book
He borrows a pen
from me
b. Intransitive
verb
Intransitive verb is
verbs that don’t require object.
Such as : go, come,
arrive, stay , etc.
For example :
They will come here
tomorrow
Ahmad goes to jakarta
by plane
D. According to using
verb , verb can difided into three :
1.
Infinitive or
present tense ( V1 )
Ø Infinitive
or present tense is the first form of the verb or basic verb.
For example : visit,
go, call, buy, feel, make, etc.
In english infinitive
defided into two :
-
Infinitive with
“to” or to infinitive
Infinitives with to can
following the particular verb in the sentence and can declare a reason or as
complement in the behind adjective or noun.
For example :
She promised to work better
They came here to rest
I’m afraid to tell the news

Infinitive
without “to”
Infinitives without to
can used for after auxiliary verb, except to be.
For example : can , may
, must , will, etc.
She can drive a car
You must take a rest
And then infinitive
without to can use after particular verb .

Past tense ( V2
)
Ø Past
tense is the second form of the verb or to declare activities that have
occurred at a particular time in the past.
For example : visited,
went, called, bought, felt, made, etc.

Past participle
( V3 )
Ø Past
participle is the third form of the verb or to declare activities in the past
and usually the activities not particular .
for example : visited,
gone, called, bought, felt, made, etc.
E. According to time
change or transform, verb can defide into two :
1. Regular
verb
Regular verb is transform the verb that
following normal regulate that is adding –d or –ed in the first form of the
verb thus becoming the second form of verb ( past tense ) and the third form of
the verb ( past participle ).
But if the infinitive ends the letter –e
then the past tense and past participle can be formed with adding –d .
